Microsoft Advance Notification for July 2014

Written by | Jul 4, 2014 1:05:00 PM

Microsoft will publish their next security patch release on Tuesday, July 8. This seems to be a light release with two "Critical" bulletins, three "Important" bulletins and one "Moderate" bulletin. These bulletins will affect Internet Explorer, Microsoft Server Software and Microsoft Windows. A restart will be necessary to install the updates. This security update should require minimal effort to install and should be quicker to update than normal.

Yet again, the majority of the security fixes this month are for Internet Explorer. This marks the sixth Patch Tuesday in a row that includes patches for Internet Explorer. However, Microsoft is not alone in their browser patching. On June 30, Apple released a total of 12 patches for Safari 6.1.5 and Safari 7.0.5.

All of the vulnerabilities in this month's release were discovered by Microsoft or privately disclosed by security researchers. The good news is that none of these vulnerabilities have been exploited in the wild yet. Of course, after the bulletin is released the race will be on to develop exploits, so it is still important to install these security updates as soon as possible.

For a complete run-down of the June Microsoft security bulletins, please come back on July 8. Enjoy your Fourth of July weekend, and we'll see you back here on Tuesday!
