Protecting the Multi-Cloud Business of Tomorrow

Written by Marcos Colón | Jul 23, 2019

Businesses are accelerating at an alarming rate. That’s mostly due in part to the nature of the modern-day customer; quick decision-makers with short attention spans and very little patience when it comes to transactions.

The only way to keep up with this rapid evolution is for organizations to make the digital transformation to the cloud, but that comes with its challenges from a cybersecurity standpoint. Knowing where their assets are in the cloud, and more importantly, putting protection around those assets is no easy feat.

With native ecosystems like AWS and Azure releasing security tools at an alarming rate, this creates a race to keep up with change within the security department.  The burden this puts on a security leader from an internal training standpoint is insurmountable, says Chris Schueler, senior vice president of Managed Security Services at Trustwave.

“[They’re not working with] a traditional, hard-wired, OEM-type of environment,” says Schueler, who will be speaking at Black Hat USA 2019 in Las Vegas, Nevada. “It’s a pretty closed-off architecture, so the ability for them to even put controls in there that are traditionally easy to adopt, is not actually easy anymore.”

In the full video interview below, Schueler highlights the challenges presented by digital transformation and outlines the most critical steps security leaders should take to secure the multi-cloud business of tomorrow.
