Trustwave's database protection solution, DbProtect, now supports Snowflake, which is a popular, cloud-based data warehousing platform used by organizations to power AI models and data-driven workflows.
Snowflake's cloud-based architecture separates storage and compute functions, allowing organizations to scale each independently. The platform's ability to handle both structured and semi-structured data makes it a preferred choice for a broad range of AI and analytics applications.
Many enterprises are increasingly using Snowflake to build AI repositories due to its scalability, versatility, and performance. However, this growing reliance on Snowflake also brings new challenges—particularly around security. AI workloads often require broader data access and more open configurations, which can inadvertently introduce risk if not properly secured.
With the integration of Snowflake, DbProtect now delivers continuous monitoring, threat detection, and granular access controls tailored to the unique needs of cloud-based AI environments. Trustwave's proactive approach to security, which focuses on hardening configurations and preventing breaches rather than reacting to them, extends seamlessly to Snowflake.
The key security principles, least-privilege access, identification of misconfigurations, and protection against known vulnerabilities are all baked into DbProtect's support for Snowflake. These are essential practices that become even more critical as AI repositories demand more open and dynamic data access.
While the foundational concepts of database security remain unchanged, AI repositories require even stricter enforcement of secure-by-design and secure-by-default principles. The flexibility that makes platforms like Snowflake appealing for AI also increases the risk surface. Trustwave's strategy ensures that this flexibility doesn't come at the expense of security.
Trustwave already supports a wide array of datastore types commonly used in AI modeling—from relational databases to document stores and data lakes. Snowflake is the latest addition in this expanding portfolio, reinforcing Trustwave's commitment to helping organizations secure the next generation of data infrastructure.
Trustwave designed DbProtect to proactively highlight sensitive data locations and the most toxic combinations of potential threat vectors. This actionable data risk insight allows immediate lockdown using security access controls and prioritizing elements of the database security management lifecycle that don't purely rely on low MTTP metrics.
Complementary to DbProtect for running a proactive managed database security program, this approach emulates potential attackers' tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) to identify and remediate vulnerabilities before a threat actor can exploit them. It's not about attacking; it's about testing defenses in a controlled manner to strengthen the security posture, generally through penetration tests and Red Team exercises. As organizations' weak points are detected, Trustwave can add to and refine controls that are part of DbProtect's security policies.
Trustwave's DbProtect database protection solution goes beyond basic reactive measures. It actively identifies sensitive data locations and analyzes potential threat vectors, including lax password management and outdated patches. This activity allows for immediate action, such as:
