Application Finds, Encrypts and Controls Access to Sensitive Data

CHICAGO (March 1, 2010) - Trustwave, a leading provider of information security and compliance solutions, unveils the integration of its Data Loss Prevention (DLP) with its Smart Tag encryption technology to deliver the strongest levels of information-centric security. Trustwave will be demonstrating this application at booth #423 during the RSA Conference, March 1-4, 2010 at the Moscone Convention Center in San Francisco.

Integrating Trustwave's DLP with its encryption technology enables persistent and continuous security for data, and Trustwave's SIEM technology delivered through its Security Services portal, presents an audit trail, completing the cycle of protection. Trustwave DLP uncovers data across the organization and automatically protects it by encrypting the data with the appropriate security policies, thus enabling a 'Discover Once, Protect Forever,' capability. The integration of encryption Smart Tags with Trustwave DLP offers the optimum level of protection for data within and outside a company's network.

As an intelligent, content aware scanning application, Trustwave's DLP allows administrators to identify, categorize and remediate sensitive data. Using content inspection and classification methods to identify sensitive information, Trustwave DLP highlights faulty business processes, areas of non-compliance and risks to proprietary company information. Personally identifiable information (PII), patient records, credit card numbers and financial documents are all examples of sensitive content that Trustwave DLP can identify and secure.

Trustwave Smart Tag technology provides a simplified and more effective approach to encryption due to its focus on protecting the data itself - not the devices to which data is saved or the networks over which the data travels. Smart Tag technology works by attaching encryption and access control policies to each file or folder resulting in persistent file encryption. This ensures that the data can only be viewed by an authorized user regardless of the devices they use, such as desktops and laptops, USB drives, storage servers, file shares and tapes.

"By integrating DLP with encryption, we're automatically protecting sensitive data rather than relying on manual intervention, which can be cumbersome, error prone and insecure," says Robert J. McCullen, chairman and CEO of Trustwave. "Trustwave's new data protection technology will further secure the business environment by encrypting sensitive data where it resides, providing persistent and continuous protection."
