The State of Application Security in One Digestible View

Applications serve a vital need for organizations. Whether delivered via the web, cloud or mobile, they can help businesses run smoother and generate revenue. But they also come with a very serious dark side.

Apps serve as the front door to critical information, and many organizations are sitting ducks to data compromises due to their failure to properly test all of their apps for security vulnerabilities. Flawed code not only potentially enables hackers to burrow into an organization to access sensitive assets, but it also allows them to distribute malware that could fleece innocent website visitors.

Adequately protecting applications remains a rampant security pressure point for most organizations. Part of the problem is awareness to the extent of the threat. That's why we decided to create a visually engaging infographic - titled "Applications Under Duress: How Well Do You Test Your Apps?" - which paints the picture of application security by laying out the risks and impediments facing IT pros, and concluding with actionable recommendations. Here is a sneak preview:

  • 75 percent of attacks occur on web applications
  • 96 percent of tested apps contain a vulnerability
  • Most organizations only test 5 percent of their application infrastructure
  • Automation can help organizations get back on track

Our hope is that you find educational value in this infographic and decide to reuse and share it with your department, business units, peers and social networks.
