Point-of-sale (POS) malware, which infects payment terminals, has been around for at least a decade, but only within the past couple of years has it become the preferred source of credit card theft.

Trustwave SpiderLabs regularly performs critical research and data breach investigations around POS threats (which include a just-discovered family known as Punkey). But for individual businesses, POS compromises can be extraordinarily difficult to detect. That's why they must proactively identify vulnerabilities that could open the door for POS malware.
